Anxiousness can do terrible things to your sleep. Everybody had that experience in their live at least once, when you are lying on your bed a day before a job interview, exam, test or a simple vacation. Hey, I even got this restlessness even when I moved from one town to another.
What if I could tell you that there is a technique with which you can get rid of this problem.
If you haven’t found it already while searching on the internet, I’m talking about a YouTube video by Harvard medical doctor Andrew Weil and his new sleeping ‘technique’ called the 4-7-8 method.
This technique has three simple steps that you’ll need to follow precisely if you want to get a good night sleep in a blink of an eye. If not? Well no big deal, you just lost a minute of your precious life. But please, I encourage you, do try to focus as this thing really works. Even if you are skeptical at first, you should to give it a try. The results are phenomenal and could exceed all of your expectations,.
So, how do you ‘turn’ this on?
This ‘sleeping exercise’ has three simple steps that go as follows:
1.Inhale slowly through the nose for about 4 seconds.
2.Hold your breath for 7 seconds.
3.Exhale slowly through your mouth for about 8 seconds.
Nobody said that it should be complicated and if you are suffering from an anxiety-induced insomnia, you should give it a try.
Why does this work?
Well, it might be because stress and anxiety are known to elevate the amount of adrenaline in the blood, which in turn leads to faster and lighter breathing. The ’4-7-8′ method basically acts as a sedative in the sense that it slows down the breathing rate and the rapid heartbeat, allowing the body to relax. You are in a sense in a type of meditative state. The body relaxes, the mind unwinds, and the feelings of anxiety simply vanish.
Andrew Weil compares the effects of the exercise to that of an anesthetic. He says the technique is perfectly harmless and has been known and practiced for centuries. According to him, Indian yogi have been using the method in their meditations for hundreds of years in order to achieve a state of total relaxation.
When to use it?
You can use it if you are having trouble sleeping, or even if you wake up in the middle of the night, if you are concerned about something, and you can also use it if you are feeling nervous and anxious ahead of some important upcoming event.
This exercise relieves you from stress. It will drive away all feelings of anxiety and negativity and it will dramatically improve the quality of your sleep.
So, if you are one of those who are not blessed with the ability to fall asleep just as soon as they hit the pillow, be sure to give it a try. It’s harmless, its free and it is not time consuming.
